Honor the Harvest:

The Turning Inward of the Qi

Autumn is a time of letting go and turning inwards!

Fall arrives!

Fall’s arrival for 2024 is influenced by a full moon which is in alignment with the energy of the

autumnal equinox arriving on Sunday September 22 at 02:43PM. As we process the

transitioning aspect of the Lung Qi and the turning inwards of the Qi during the fall months

ahead. Grief is the energy of the lungs, the yin organ, and “release” is the energy of the

associated yang organ, the large intestine. Feeling grief and letting go is a natural part of

impermanence. The transition of the seasons represents this as well.

How you can support yourself!

Supporting ourselves in this process through meditation, deep breathing, connection, healthy

seasonal foods, and movement is paramount. The lungs (including the sinuses, airways and

skin) are how we initially bring qi (air qi) into our bodies and this organ system can be deeply

affected by dryness and seasonal changes we feel in the air, the decomposition of the leaves,

and the dampness of the mist and fog.

Balance between light and dark!

Another thing to be considered this time of year is the balance between light and dark. This is

also a meaningful time to honor the harvest, and the results of what we have sown in several

ways. Not only do we harvest the things we planted in our garden, but we also take stock and

harvest our efforts and intentions for our life.

Keep shining through!

Looking forward to the day when it is slightly overcast with a chill in the air and suddenly the

clouds get separated from sunshine and sunshine manages to muscle its way through, and the

hills ignite with the brilliance of autumn. It may not be the last for the season. Probably won’t

last. For a moment the world comes to a pause, perks up, and proves it lives on.
